What You'll Learn in the Chai Making Class

In this hands-on class, you'll learn how Indian families actually make chai at home — not the tea-bag version. You'll hand-blend your own masala (spice mix) using cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves, learn the correct ratio of milk to water for authentic texture, and brew your chai the traditional stovetop way. Your host will also walk you through the history of chai in India and how Masala Chai became a national ritual. You'll finish the class drinking the chai you made yourself, alongside homemade Indian snacks.

What's Included

Your ₹2,499 booking includes all ingredients and spices for your chai blend, homemade Indian snacks, unlimited chai/water during the class, and your instructor's fee. Not included: personal expenses (transport, shopping), and travel or medical insurance.

Meeting Point & Duration

The class takes place in a private, air-conditioned family home in Greater Kailash Part-1, New Delhi, and runs for approximately 1 hour. Taxis, Uber, and Ola are easily available to and from the venue. Pickup and drop-off can be arranged within New Delhi for an additional ₹4,000.

Meet Your Host Family

Your class is hosted by JD and their family, in the same home kitchen where they cook every day. He has welcomed guests from around the world to learn chai-making as part of Explore Real India's 11+ years of family-hosted culinary experiences — the same family behind our Old Delhi food tours and cooking classes.

Is This Chai Class Safe for Solo Travelers?

Yes. The class takes place inside a private home, not a public street setting, with the host family present throughout. We've hosted solo travelers, including many solo women, as part of our 14,000+ guest history since 2015. If you'd like, transport can be arranged directly to and from your hotel for extra peace of mind.
