Discover the art of Indian cooking in our family home, unlike commercial studios.
Here you'll experience authentic Indian cooking in our family kitchen and engage in a hands-on culinary journey.

What You'll Cook: A Full Indian Meal Including

Sample Menu (varies by day — every class includes a chicken dish, a vegetarian dish, fresh bread, and dessert)

  • Chicken: Butter chicken or another chicken specialty
  • Vegetarian: Dal tadka or shahi paneer
  • Bread: Roti, chapati, garlic paratha, or masala paratha
  • Dessert: Kheer (rice pudding) or seviyan (sweet vermicelli)

All recipes come from four generations of my family's kitchen. Vegetarian and vegan versions available on request. Discover the secrets behind each recipe, gain valuable cooking techniques, and enjoy the history and cultural significance of the dishes.

Why Cook in a Real Delhi Home, Not a Commercial Studio

I started teaching this class in my own family kitchen in Greater Kailash-1
because I wanted guests to experience India the way my family actually lives
— not in a rented studio, but around our real dining table. Everything you'll
cook is a recipe my mother/grandmother/father taught me, and it's still what we
cook at home every week.

Meet Your Host: JD & Family

Your host, JD, is a 3th-generation cook from a Sikh family in Delhi, teaching
cooking classes since 2015 alongside his parents. JD speaks English, Hindi,
and Punjabi, and has hosted over 14,000 guests — including teams from Google,
Apple, Amazon, and Meta.

This was honestly one of the highlights of my entire trip to India. I joined a private Delhi cooking class with a local family, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed like family.

We prepared so many different Indian dishes during the class, and my goodness, every single dish was absolutely delicious. This was some of the best Indian food I have ever tasted. The flavors, spices, and traditional cooking techniques were incredible.

Our host, JD, comes from a third-generation restaurant family. His father ran a restaurant for more than 70 years, and you can truly taste the history and experience in their recipes. Every dish has a story, and learning about the traditions behind the food made this cooking class in Delhi even more special.

If you are visiting Delhi, I highly recommend taking time out for this authentic Indian cooking experience. Do not skip it! It is much more than just a cooking class — it is a chance to connect with a local family, understand Indian culture, and enjoy some of the most amazing homemade Indian food.

Thank you, Explore Real India, for arranging such a memorable experience. They offer many other experiences and private tours as well. I also joined their food tours, Chai Master Class, and they arranged my Taj Mahal trip from Delhi, and everything was organized perfectly.

This Delhi cooking class was definitely one of the best experiences of my India journey. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Indian food, local culture, and a truly unforgettable experience.

I had a wonderful time at JD’s Indian cooking class. The experience felt incredibly personal from the start—small, warm, and thoughtfully curated. JD doesn’t just teach recipes; he explains the “why” behind each step, which made it genuinely useful and easy to recreate the dishes later.

What stood out most was how immersive it felt. From understanding spices to getting hands-on with the cooking process, it was engaging in every sense. It didn’t feel like a class—it felt like being welcomed into someone’s home and culture.

Highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for an authentic and meaningful introduction to Indian cooking.

I spent the day with JD touring old Delhi so it only made sense for me as female traveler to do a cooking class with him. I got to meet his family and experience Indian cuisine in an Indian home. The food….oh Em Gee…delicious 🙂‍↔️. I loved the rice pudding. I loved that he had me very involved in the cuisine. Most importantly, I loved learning about the different spices. You would not regret booking this activity.

I am an Indian and it was great to see the way the fine-tuning and tweaking was done and I know the boys in the group with me will find it easy to replicate it all. Such patience our host chef had, way too experienced and hats off to the energy he had. I would really like to add God bless him as whoever comes for a class will surely benefit with his experience and background. I live fairly close by but was most intrigued with the reviews etc. Already passed the word to other friends and acquaintances and am so glad I opted to join this. Time just flew. I think he gave us extra time, too. Kind, gentle soul!

Cooking with JD and his father was an exceptional experience. Both welcomed us warmly into their home and instantly made us feel at ease and like old friends. We spent our evening laughing, learning to cook a delicious dinner, and breaking bread together. The meal was honestly one of the best I’ve ever eaten, and afterwards JD provided the recipes for each item we made together, so *hopefully* I can recreate them myself at home. I appreciated that JD reached out ahead of the experience to inquire whether we were vegetarian or non, and if there were any food sensitivities. I can’t recommend this experience enough if you find yourself in Delhi! (And come hungry!)

This was a wonderful experience, I would highly recommend. It was great to be fully embraced as a guest in JD’s home, interact with his parents, and gain the confidence to make various Indian dishes. I’m not a full-versed cook and JD made everything so easy to do. He is a well versed cook, as there is no doubt anyone from rookie to experienced would enjoy this. All that said, the best part (and I should have mentioned earlier the food was tasty too!) is as the conversation and company we had as we prepared the meal and then ate it.

JD was an absolutely fantastic host and an even better person. From the moment we arrived, we felt incredibly welcome and instantly connected with him, it honestly felt like meeting an old friend rather than someone we had just met.

The cooking class that JD and his dad prepared for us was a highlight of our time. I had initially been a little worried that we might mostly just watch, but JD made sure we were fully involved. He explained everything step by step, guided us patiently through each stage, and at the same time encouraged us to actually cook ourselves, from preparing the dessert and rice to making the main dish and even the bread.

What made the experience even more special was that we didn’t just follow recipes. JD taught us about the spices used in Indian cooking, how to layer flavors properly, and shared several clever kitchen tricks that make preparing these dishes much easier at home.

It was a wonderful, authentic, and very memorable experience. :)
